My Maroubra house is old. Can it still take solar and a battery?
Usually, yes. The things that change on an older house are the roof (old tiles crack, so some may need replacing) and the switchboard (an old fuse board may need upgrading before a battery goes in). We check both on the site visit and both are on the quote.
I live a block from the beach. Does that matter?
It can. Some makers reduce warranty cover within a set distance of the sea, or require the battery to be sheltered. We check the manual for the battery we quote against your address and install it where the warranty applies.
How much is the battery rebate?
$4,170* off an 18kWh battery installed with solar. It's the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program and it comes straight off the price on your quote, so there's nothing to claim later. On 1 January 2027 it drops to $3,490* for the same battery, and the install date decides which amount you get.
Do I need solar panels already?
The battery has to be installed with solar. If you already have panels, we can usually add a battery to them. If you don't, we put panels and a battery in together, and the solar earns its own federal rebate too.
What's a kWh, and what size battery do I need?
A kWh (kilowatt-hour) is how much energy a battery holds. 10kWh suits a lot of family homes; households with evening air con, a pool or an electric car often go larger. Your power bill shows how much you use and when, which is why we ask for one before recommending a size.
Will a battery pay for itself?
It depends on your tariff, how much power you use in the evening, and whether you have solar already. A battery stores solar from the middle of the day so the house can run on it at night instead of buying from the grid. Savings vary from home to home, and we'll give you our honest read rather than a guaranteed number.
Will a battery keep the lights on in a blackout?
It can, if the system is set up for backup. Not every installation is, so tell us if that matters to you and we'll design for it.
Which batteries does SIPENERGY install?
